Bruce Cameron's book of the same name, which is a sequel to the best-selling A Dog's Purpose. Howard took on the role after reading the first book, which was also turned into a film. The actress notes that the movie was able to help her family deal with the death of their cat. Along with a some pretty intense scenes, the trailer also shows a few of those fun moments, including the pooch snagging an entire steak from a family's barbecue.

Lucas Ray rescues his puppy Bella and his life changes forever. Lucas smuggles her into his building and decides to risk taking her to his job, where she provides therapy dog services for veterans in his hospital on the down low. During the aforementioned scene with the wolves, Bella is protected by a Cougar, which seems pretty strange. However, Bryce Dallas Howard was able to explain why the cougar rescued Bella instead of eating her.
When asked about the movie, Howard had this to say. The two become inseparable, but one day, after chasing a squirrel out of her neighborhood, Bella finds herself lost and confused. She must travel through the Colorado wilderness—fending off wolves and befriending a cougar—to get back to her beloved owner. There's nothing like the bond between a furry friend and its owner, and the new trailer for A Dog's Way Home shows just how strong that connection can be. The movie tells the story of Bella, a super-sweet puppy who one day runs right into the arms of Lucas, (Jonah Hauer-King) who can't help but bring her home.
